Regional and Traveler’s Points change!
This tough economy uncovered the need to make a change in how we calculate our Regional and Traveler’s points. A couple of our regions had less than 10 teams participation in some or all events. Teams competing in those regions received lots of Traveler’s points due to the small field sizes. Starting in 2011, any event with less than 10 teams competing will be awarded points on a 90 point scale. Any event with 10 or more teams will be awarded points on a 100 point scale. This point system will be for both the Regional Anglers of the Year points race as well as the Traveler’s Anglers of the Year race. This system will still award anglers a substantial number of points for each event, no matter the number of entries, but will not "over award" points at very low participation events. Each team will still receive 10 participation points at all events.
A Change to
Traveler’s!
When we started Traveler’s in 1990, the intent was to have a region based on anglers traveling through two or more regions. This is for the teams willing to fish lakes outside of their "home" waters. Through the years, several of our lakes have become part of more than one region. Under our rules prior to this change, you receive Traveler’s points by fishing events in more than one region even if all of the events were fished on the same body of water. We count your best 5 events with no more than 3 events counted from any single region, regardless of the location of the events. We are modifying how we count the points. If a team’s best 4th and or 5th finishes are on the same body of water as their top 3 finishes, the points for the 4th and or 5th events will be awarded on a 90 point system instead of the 100 point system. All events will still be awarded 10 participation points. This system will still award a substantial number of points to qualify a team for a Team Classic but will very likely not be enough points to earn a Traveler’s A.O.Y. title. Example; Clear Lake in California is fished by anglers in both the Northern Cal and Clear Lake regions. In past years an anglers could will the title of Traveler’s Angler of the Year by fishing 3 Clear Lake Region events on Clear Lake and 2 Northern Cal region Clear Lake events. While this satisfied the rule, it did not meet the intended spirit of the rule. If a team were to win all 5 of those events they would earn 550 points guaranteeing at lease a tie for the Traveler’s A.O.Y. Under the new rule, that team would receive 330 points for the first 3 events and 200 points for the final two wins for a total of 530 points. This is also assuming that each event had at least 10 teams competing.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Returning in 2011 . . . Choose Your Classic!
All teams that qualify through any of our regions will have the option of which Team Classic they fish! To qualify for a Team Classic you must fish a minimum of 5 events in any single region and finish in the top 30 in that region. It gets even better, if you qualify in two region, you will receive two invitions! That means that you can choose any two Team Classics! And for those of you that just can't get enough tournament action . . . If you qualify in three Regions, you receive three invitations! Here's how it works for you Traveler's anglers. You must have a minimum of five (5) events to receive an invitation to one Team Classic. You get to choose the Team Classic you attend. To receive a second invitation you need to qualify from a region (other than Traveler's) and have a minimum of ten (10) total events. A third invitation will be awarded for teams that qualify from two regions (other than Traveler's) and have a minimum of fifteen (15) total events. Later in the season we will bring you information on how you register for the Team Classic (or Team Classic's) you plan to attend.
Here is a list of up-coming events! Please check the regional page for updates and information on each event. For Regional information please select the "Schedules/Standings/Results" menu on the left column of this page, then select the "2011" season year. Call the Regional Tournament Director if you have any questions or call the American Bass main office (310) 376-1026.
